Preservation Month Discoveries

Junk is caught under a stone bridge in Cherokee Park.
Pile the kids in the car and strap the dog to the roof—we have some Olmsted Landscapes to preserve! May is National Preservation Month, and this year's theme is Discover America's Hidden Gems.

What can you learn from visiting an Olmsted park?

  • Planning is design.
  • Olmsted landscape architecture is a piece of American history.
  • Water, woods, and open fields are the main elements.
  • Connections matter.
  • Stuff can get stuck under a park bridge after a hard Louisville rain. (see photo above)

Our parks need constant care, support, and use. We think it's a good time to start planning your family vacation, so we've put together some Olmsted-designed national treasures for you to explore. Let's go Olmsted!

Olmsted-Designed Parks Can Be Enjoyed In:

  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Louisville, Kentucky
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • Seattle, Washington
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Buffalo, New York
