Built in 1910, the Washington, DC performance center has been home to vaudeville acts, local talent shows, and decades of national artists. "The Howard was America's first full-sized theater built for Black audiences and entertainers," says the website of the Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc.
This historic national landmark closed in the early 1980s, but the $29 million renovation and restoration project is bringing performing arts back to life—thanks in part to the perseverance and influence of a few like Mr. Cosby. Bravo!
