Architecture Updates March 11 17 2012

Street level photograph looking up the Bogardus facade of 85 Leonard St in NYCWhat did Frank Lloyd Wright think about cast-iron architecture? Wright was born six years after James Bogardus developed the 1861 cast-iron facade shown here. Wright had to deal with the cast iron revolution when he remodeled the 1888 Rookery Building, which is known to have "cast-iron columns joined by wrought-iron spandrel beams." This week's updates include a lot of new material about Frank Lloyd Wright and also about cast iron.
