Bartholdi on his Birthday

At the same time Bartholdi was designing this gas-lit fountain, now at the U.S. Botanic Garden, he was also designing his most famous statue. Statue of Liberty

Towering over Liberty Island in New York, Bartholdi's depiction of Lady Liberty in the iconic Statue of Liberty has become one of the most enduring symbols of the United States. Today, on his birthday, April 2, 1834, we celebrate Bartholdi's gifts to our nation.
