An AllAmerican Castle

Photograph of Otto KahnWhen men who became the symbols of wealth and power in New York's financial district needed a vacation home, financiers like Otto Hermann Kahn turned toward Long Island, creating a "neighborhood" known as the Gold Coast. Of all the Gold Coast mansions, Kahn's summer mansion, Oheka Castle became legendary.

Designed to resemble a French Château, Oheka was (and still is) America's largest residence after the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. Imagine my delight when I was invited to spend the night in one of the castle's luxurious rooms...
